Artist: Ryszard Kaja

Ryszard Kaja was born in Poznan, Poland in 1962. After graduating from the Higher School of Fine Arts, he began his career as a set designer for the Great Theatre in Lodz, but soon followed in his father's footsteps and entered the world of graphic design. His father was the esteemed poster designer and representative of the Polish School of Posters, Zbigniew Kaja. The prose of Czech writer, Bohumil Hrabal, is said to be the main inspiration behind Ryszard's designs.

Beginning in the 1950s and through the 1980s, the Polish School of Posters combined the aesthetics of painting with the succinctness and simple metaphor of the poster. It developed characteristics such as painterly gesture, linear quality, and vibrant colors, as well as a sense of individual personality, humor, and fantasy. It was in this way that the polish poster was able to make the distinction between designer and artist less apparent. This contemporary Polish poster, for an exhibition of the works Ryszard Kaja, is in excellent condition and measures 38 x 26.5 inches.
