As opposed to the French who pioneered the lithographic process, Cuban poster production in the 1950s and 60s was primarily centred  around silk screening. Images were built up through layers of paint rather than ink, resulting in a poster which more closely resembled a painting than a litho. The printing tradition continues with CartelON, a project devoted to promoting silkscreening in Cuba by organizing graphic design contests where creatives of all ages can be inspired to explore screenprinting.

About the Poster: This poster is a tribute to the City of Havana in its 503 Anniversary. Convened by the CartelON project, this piece represents one of the 7 universal arts: Literature. Inspired by Guillermo Cabrera Infante's novel: Three Trapped Tigers (Tres tristes tigres), which at its core is a celebration and reflection of Havana's cultural milieu, and the title itself is a playful take on Cuban identity and the complexities of urban life.

About the Artist: Alejo is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator, who is Cuban born, now based in Havana. While he uses graphite on paper to sketch out concepts and silhouettes, he finishes his illustrations digitally, where he adds colours and patterns He has collaborated in different national and international exhibitions, festivals and biennials concerning posters and illustrations.
