The French Union (L'union francaise) was the political designation used for the French colonial empire between 1946-1958. Under this structure, the former colonies were theoretically united under a single French state with the eventual goal of a central government. This poster was created to promote an exhibition organized by the Society of Engineers for Overseas France (Société d'ingénieurs pour la France d'outre mer)held on the left bank of the Seine river in Paris at the Quai d'Orsay, between the Alma and Concorde bridges.
The artist, Bernard Villemot (1911-1989), was a well respected French graphic designer. He is known primarily for his work with Orangina, Bally shoes, Perrier and Air France. This poster is in excellent condition and has been linen backed.
