About the Artist:

Born in 1924, Nory was a Belgian musician and illustrator. He was best known as the unofficial art director of the Hot Club de Belgique, a jazz club said to have united the Belgian jazz scene from 1939 til the mid-60s.

While little is known about him, Nory was a prolific illustrator who worked in publishing and advertising for most of his career. He first began as an intern in Paris during his teenage years before going back to Belgium to complete his studies. A jazz musician himself, Nory was heavily involved in the Belgian scene and would often produce promotional material voluntarily. Because of his humourous and modern style, Nory's work directly rivalled that of Peter De Greef, the most prominent jazz illustrator in Belgium at that time. It was his work for the Hot Club de Belgique that landed him a job at the publicity agency Bodden & Dechy, where he directed the drawing office and produced this beautiful poster for Henin & Co.

His work was featured in multiple magazines and advertising campaigns and won him the Russel award in 1953 and the first price in the Pan American Airways poster competition in 1958. He passed away at a young age in the late 60s of appendicitis.
