About the Poster: The North-West Mounted Police was a Canadian police force established in 1873 to ensure a lawful region for European settlers. In 1920, the force merged with the Dominion police and became the current Royal Canadian Mounted Police. This lithograph presents three Mounties with their horses. Their appearances reflect their purposes: an efficient police force, ready to implement the law in Western Canada.

Schell and Hogan had a partnerships that lasted for thirty years, they were both illustrators and lithographers. Schell was better known for his wartime works, 211 of which were published in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. Schell's work was also published in Century magazine,  Beyond the Mississippi (Hartford, 1869) and  Battles and Leaders of the Civil War (The Century Company, 1884-1887).  (Source)
