About the poster:
Lescène Laboratories was a French pharmaceutical company popular in the early 1900's. In the 1940's they commissioned illustrator Jacqueline Duché (1892 - 1973) to illustrate advertisements for their medications. This charming piece is one such advertisement for Zymatine, a powder that purports to aid with digestion.
The front of the illustration reads: 'Rendez à César ce qui est a César...' ("Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's..."), a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Bible verse.
