About the Poster: The History of Cuba is characterized by colonization and conflict. Spain, the United States and the USSR have all played integral and important parts in the colonization of the island, and each has left its impact - positive, negative, and lasting - on the island and its people.
Alicia Alonso was a Cuban prima ballerina assoluta and choreographer whose company became the Ballet Nacional de Cuba in 1955. She is best known for her portrayals of Giselle and the ballet version of Carmen. From the age of nineteen, Alonso was afflicted with an eye condition and became partially blind.
