About The Poster: This original French poster advertises an agricultural market in Blois. Blois, a hillside city on the Loire River, is the capital of the Loir-et-Cher department in central France. The late-Gothic Blois Cathedral - visible on the horizon line of this poster - towers over its cobbled center. Nearby, the Château Royal de Blois is a former royal palace with ornate chambers, and paintings and sculptures from the 16th to 19th centuries.
The market took the shape of an agricultural fair and was most well known for the sale of various types of wine. This poster in particular presents the dates of the festival, 19-28 May, 1951and features the striking silhouette of a lovely French lass looking longingly towards the city - perhaps waiting for her opportunity to see the market first hand.
