About the Posters: Andreas Bernhard Lyonel Feininger (December 27, 1906 – February 18, 1999) was a French-born American black-and-white photographer known for his documentation of New York. With an acute interest in structure, Feininger rarely photographed people and portraits; he instead focused on science and nature, photographing phenomena like shells, minerals, and plants, amongst other things.
Illinois-born artist Russell Lee was a documentary artist initially trained as an engineer and a painter. Though his interest in photography began in 1935, it is his later work which gave him his reputation; this work included aerial surveys for the Air Transport Command and military life during World War II, his controversial study of Spanish-speaking people in Texas, and his political work for the Texas Observer. Unlike the artistic life one might imagine for a photographer, it is Lee's government-work in the Farm Security Administration that is most renowned.
Robert Doisneau was a 1930s French photographer beloved for the pictures he took on the streets of Paris. His depictions of Parisian society capture the French urban spirit in captivating and often humorous detail. His work is at once thought-provoking and nostalgic, and Doisneau is known for championing the humanist style of photography. Doisneau was appointed a Chevalier (Knight) of the Legion of Honour in 1984.
These posters are in excellent condition, each from a photography exhibition for each of the artists. They make a wonderful set together in their depiction of various scopes of camera detail. Their minimalist design is striking and versatile, well-suited for any room and colour-palette.
