About The Poster:

The Champagne house De Castellane was founded in Epernay, in the heart of the Champagne region by the Viscount Florens de Castellane in 1895. The Viscount adopted the Cross of Saint Andrews, the emblem of his brand, as a tribute to the oldest regiment of Champagne. Very quickly the Champagne de Castellane became the Champagne of the Gay Paris of the Belle Epoque and is still considered a premium brand as of today.

This poster is a 1980's reproduction of a Champagne poster created by Leonetto Cappiello in 1922. This champagne Vicomte de Castellane poster features a man dressed like a musketeer holding a bottle of Vicomte de Castellane Champagne in the air emphasizing on the bottle of quality of the champagne.

About the Artist:

Leonetto Cappiello is considered to be one of the greatest posterists of his age. His approach was "always image association - the idea that you don't remember the image of the product itself, but the image of something is associated with the product ... Cappiello was the first who thoroughly understood this, and he applied it with much diligence in about a thousand posters." (Rennert)
