About the poster: Winning poster of the 3rd Prize of the “San Lázaro-From Larnaca to Havana” Contest, convened by CartelON, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Havana.
About the artist: Amauri Rivera Rodriguez is a designer graduated from ISDi in 2001 specializing in Visual Communication Design. His posters have been part of several exhibitions, obtaining two first poster prizes in the first and second edition respectively of the International Festival of Public Good Communication held in Havana in 2002 and 2003. He is selected by the jury in the contest poster No to violence against women, convened by the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Center in 2012. He is also a finalist with three posters in the Poster Contest Guernica by Picasso, 80 years old!
About San Lázaro: The Santuario de San Lázaro (Sanctuary of San Lázaro) is one of the most important destinations for pilgrims on the whole island of Cuba, in Havana. This temple, which is hidden in the village of El Rincón, lacks ostentation. Inside we find the saint San Lázaro, also known as Babalú Ayé, an Orisha in the santería, known to be the saint of healing the sick and caring for the poor. His feast day is December 17, when tens of thousands of Cubans make the pilgrimage to show their devotion to the Catholic saint. Near the sanctuary there is a hospital for patients with leprosy and other skin pathologies. (www.cubavoyage.org)
