This original print is from a vintage edition of La Presse, a Canadian newspaper. It was founded in 1884, as it recently went digital, this piece is really quite the find! It was illustrated by JOB and the caption below details the origin and evolution of A bayonets (from French baïonnettes). They are a bladed weapon similar to a knife or short sword, or spike-shaped weapon designed to fit in, on, over or underneath the muzzle of a rifle, musket or similar firearm, augmenting the firearm to allow use as a pike. The short article traces the history of bayonets through Madagascar, Holland, and France.
Matted and ready to frame, we feel it would be a fabulous addition to a chalet or country house and would, of course, be a great souvenir for anyone from (or visiting!) our beautiful city.
