This mini lithographic poster shows a threaded needle ready to dip into an embroidery hoop festooned with pink, blue, and yellow flowers. It was designed by Julius E. F. Gipkens (1883-1968), a German painter, illustrator and graphic designer who took inspiration from the work of Lucian Bernhard. He began his career in Berlin, designing posters for Germany during World War I before transitioning to illustrations created for advertising and design firms after 1918. He immigrated to the United States in 1933, dying in New York in 1968 at the age of 85.
