About the poster: the Cunard Line is a British shipping company created in 1839 by Samuel Cunard, an British-Canadian shipping magnate. The company was the first to establish a scheduled steamship connection between Europe and North America. By the end of World War Two, it was the largest passenger line operating in the Atlantic. In the late 1950's, the profitability of transatlantic passenger ships decreased with the advent of jet airliners, and the company shifted its focus from year-round service to holiday cruises.
Today, Cunard is the only shipping company to still operate a scheduled passenger service between Europe and North America. This poster advertises Cunard's Atlantic voyages travelling from France to the United States and Canada.
