About The Poster: Music sheets like these were popular in Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Artists like Misti, Ibels, Steinlen and Burret helped popularize the medium when they illustrated the famous "Paris en Chanson" series of music sheets in the 1890s.
This particular booklet was for a piece described as a Gypsy Waltz (Valse Tzigane). Tzigane was a rhapsodic composition by the French composer Maurice Ravel. It was commissioned by and dedicated to Hungarian violinist Jelly d'Arányi, great-niece of the influential violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim. The original instrumentation was for violin and piano. Needless to say, for lovers of pop culture, comedy, or history, this piece is quite collectible, AND affordable!
This piece is in very good condition and ready to frame. Rare.
