About The Poster: This poster was designed by Adam for his friends in a jazz ensemble called the Orchestre Sympathique in 1981 for their world tour. Evoking some of the humor and irony for which posters are well-known, it is a tongue in cheek look at musicians on the road... literally! This poster was in the private collection of a noted jazz musician and producer and is only one of hundreds which we have just received. The others will be appearing in our ebay store shortly.

About the artist: Yvan Adam has been described by 20th century poster experts as one of the two most influential Quebec poster artists of the last 50 years (the other being Vittorio Fiorucci). A rough translation from Marc Choko's definitive work on Quebec posters describes Adam as follows: "Born in Mont Saint Hilaire, Adam started his career as an illutrator at Le Jour, with a head full of psychedelic posters and reproductions of Toulouse Lautrec and Alphonse Mucha plastered on his walls from floor to ceiling from his adolescence onwards. In 1976 he left for Paris, installed himself in Montmartre where he experimented with painting. Returning to Montreal a year later, he went looking for poster contracts with theaters and film producers. He never looked back. Adam's curiosity led him to various graphic and technical styles - he designed company logos, album covers, and editorial illustrations. He has worked in film and now designs, among other things, web sites as well as posters. He refuses interviews, does not enter his works in design competitions, and continues to paint, design posters, and create websites. He lives outside of Montreal."
