About Polish Posters:  Beginning in the 1950s and through the 1980s, the Polish School of Posters combined the aesthetics of painting with the succinctness and simple metaphor of the poster. It developed characteristics such as painterly gesture, linear quality, and vibrant colors, as well as a sense of individual personality, humor, and fantasy. It was in this way that the polish poster was able to make the distinction between designer and artist less apparent.

1980s poster for a production of Pan Twardowski at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw.

Pan Trivia: In ancient Greek mythology Pan is the god of the wild, shepherds and their flocks, nature and mountain wilds, as well as the companion of the nymphs. He has the hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat, like a faun, and he is also recognized as the god of fields, groves, wooded glens. Pan is often affiliated with sex; because of this, Pan is connected to fertility and the season of spring. The ancient Greeks also considered Pan to be the god of theatrical criticism. (I'm frankly not too sure how his other attributes lead to a knowledge of theatrical criticism, but far be it for me to question a Greek God.)

Overall excellent condition. From a private collection, ready be framed.
