About the Poster: This poster was commissioned by the early French railway Chemins de fer de Paris a Orleans (PO).
The poster was designed by Charles Hallo (1884-1969), easily recognizable by his signature "ALO" in the lithographic plate, and features a representation of the reliquary statue of Saint-Foy. This statue is a part of what is known as the treasures of Conques, a collection of reliquaries associated to the The St. Foy abbey-church in Conques, a commune in southern France. Created at the end of the 9th century, the gold reliquary is encrusted with jewels offered by pilgrims who travelled to Conques during the Middle Ages.
Recently received in the gallery, this poster is in overall very good condition.
It has pinholes in all corners and margins, a small paper loss in the extreme upper left margin, and a small tear on the bottom margin (please see photos) - all of which will disappear when the poster is framed.
