About The Poster: This poster showcases Quebec and its nickname 'La Belle Province' and was produced by the province's tourism board in the 1960s.
The poster represents the Citadel of Quebec City, a fortress built by the British between 1820 and 1850. Located on top of the Cap Diamant, the highest natural point of the area, the Citadel played a key role in the city's defences and contains the oldest military building in Canada. Since 1920, the Citadel has been the home of the Royal 22e Regiment, as pictured in their distinctive red uniforms and tall black hats. The Quebec Citadel notably hosted the Quebec Conferences of 1943 and 1944, during which the leaders of Canada, Britain and the United States came together to discuss military strategy during World War II.
The Quebec Citadel has been a national historic site of Canada since 1980, and 5 years later became a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the District of Old Quebec.
Poster is in very good condition and ready to frame.
