About the poster: Henri de Waroquier (1881-1970) was a French illustrator, sculptor, painter who belonged to the School of Paris artists. This poster was designed by de Waroquier especially for the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer français; "French National Railway Corporation"). The latter is France's national state-owned railway company. Begun in 1938, it used posters from its inception to advertise the multitude of destinations which were served by its rail-lines.
A little bit of trivia on Burgundy: Burgundy is one of France's main wine producing areas. It is well known for both its red and white wines, mostly made from Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes. The reputation and quality of the top wines, together with the fact that they are often produced in small quantities, has led to high demand and high prices, with some Burgundies ranking among the most expensive wines in the world.
This poster is unlined and in good condition. Some small tears in each corner.
