Artist: Toca, Jessica
In 2020, I worked with Stephanie Aubin, a graphic designer and teacher at Montreal's Dawson College, to create a mandate for her students: come up with a poster that reflects the culture and feeling of a Montreal neighborhood. I offered to print and sell the five winning posters, and each student will receive 50% from the proceeds of each sale. The posters are available in limited quantities.
Stephanie's students created a variety of posters, each reflecting their personal approach and style. This one, by Jessica Toca features the district of Lachine, and its famous lighthouse. I asked Jessica for a bio and this is what she said:
"Jessica Toca, based in Montreal, Quebec, is a graduate from the Illustration program at Dawson College.
She works digitally on Photoshop for most of the time, but she also enjoys creating art traditionally with mediums such as coloured pencils, watercolour and gouache. The work of artists who inspire Jessica motivates her to improve her skills as an illustrator and to create art just as good as theirs.
With her soft, round, and cartoonish art style, she wants to portray the feeling of coziness and inner-youth to the people viewing her art. In her free time, she enjoys watching videos about true crime, playing the piano as well as playing video games!"
This poster is available framed (for $175), or unframed (for $100).
